Changing Your Habits
Swami Kriyananda tells us that it's difficult to change bad habits using only thought and reason because our minds are influenced by desires and attachments. When we reach a superconscious state, however, we can change a deep-seated habit in one meditation!

By focusing our energy on uplifting our consciousness through spiritual practices such as meditation, attunement with God and guru, satsang, and japa, we receive the power to transform those habits that limit our spiritual progress.

Devotion and Spiritual Growth
In this talk Swami Kriyananda goes right to the heart of our teachings: how to love God more. He reminds us that God doesn't care what we know, but how much we love. Divine Mother likes simple devotion, and in prayer she responds to the quality of our hearts, not our words.

He also explains that when we meditate with just our minds it doesn't feed the soul; we must meditate with devotion! Thus in our spiritual practices, we need to lift our hearts in devotion to God, and we will hear His response.

Swami  Kriyananda also talks about how once we get seriously on the spiritual path, God begins challenging us to surrender our attachments. He does this not to bring us pain, but to help us avoid the greater pain of living a life without Him. This is part of the divine romance.

How to Open Your Heart
Sri Yukteswar, a modern Yoga Master from India, said you can't take one step on the spiritual path until you've awakened the natural love of the heart. Swami Kriyananda gives us insights and examples on how to remove the layers we have built up around our hearts, helping us to unfold our heart's natural love.

How to Overcome Spiritual Laziness
Swami Kriyananda states here that the basis of spiritual laziness lies in the fact that we have all evolved from states of relative unconsciousness. The Indian Scriptures say that God sleeps in the minerals, dreams in the plants, and begins to stir in the animals. At the human level, we finally have the potential to shake off the hypnotic effects of countless past incarnations.

Laziness springs from an affinity to the states of relative unconsciousness to which we've been accustomed. We make spiritual progress when we move toward greater awareness and eventually become fully awake in God. In this class, Swami Kriyananda tells us the steps we must take to move toward that goal.

How to Recognize and Trust Inner Guidance
Some of the things Swami Kriyananda discusses in this talk are how we can prepare ourselves to be open and attuned to God's guidance; the ways in which guidance comes to us; how to discern the difference between true guidance and personal projection; and, what to do when guidance doesn't come to us.

Swami Kriyananda teaches us how to tune into our own superconsciousness which is the source of true guidance. He also says guidance can come to us as energy while we're in the process of acting. If our intention is right, energy will come and will continually help us make course corrections.

Swami Kriyananda reminds us that as with any endeavor, guidance will come more easily and clearly the more we orient our lives toward receiving it. With practice and experience, we'll develop a sharp edge to our intuition, a clear sense of what is right.

How to Spiritualize Your Relationships
Swami Kriyananda states that relationships represent our soul's desire to expand, to unite with others, and to ultimately merge with infinity. They provide an excellent opportunity for growth by helping us to see our own faults, rid ourselves of false expectations, and learn unconditional acceptance and love.

Swami Kriyananda also tells us to allow healthy space in our relationships, how to discuss difficult issues at appropriate times, and to give others the right to learn from their own mistakes.

Leadership: A Spiritual Journey
In this talk Swami Kriyananda tells us how outward development and action can be an aide to our spiritual progress. He discusses the qualities of non-attachment, centeredness, service, patience, and magnetism, and helps us to understand their importance from both inner and outer perspectives.

For example, regarding service, Swami Kriyananda reminds us that leaders must offer their work and themselves humbly to others, or they risk falling from ego centeredness. Yogananda was humble and respectful to all whom met, although he towered above them spiritually.

Swami Kriyananda also talks about dealing with negative people or negative personal traits, and he reminds us to work on only one battle at a time. We can't reach our goals by forcing issues—we have to build our foundations carefully and ensure the energy is right. We must fight the battles we can win, and in doing so develop the strength that will help us conquer the more difficult ones.

Love: Human and Divine
In this talk Swami Kriyananda reminds us not to limit our love to just one person or family, but to expand it to include everyone and to see everyone as our own. He also relates that life's experiences, especially the painful ones, help us to release our egoic pride and drop the sheathes surrounding our heart, allowing it to be softened. Once softened, the heart's natural love can flow freely through us, and we are able to love with God's love.

Overcoming Stress and Fear
Swami Kriyananda reminds us here that when we face the battles of life, we are called upon to concentrate our forces and put out the energy to overcome the obstacle (or karma) in front of us. The more battles we fight, the stronger we grow spiritually, and the closer we come to winning our ultimate freedom in God.

He also advises us not to dilute our energy by worrying about the outcome of our efforts. If we put all our energy into what we're doing at present, our concentration will be better, and so will the results.

Yoga and Christianity
Revealing the underlying unity of all religions was a central mission of Yogananda's work. In his teachings and writings, Yogananda explained the fundamental truths and similarities of Hinduism and Christianity.

To increase understanding and clarity of this aspect of Yogananda's mission, Swami Kriyananda has written two books: Rays of the Same Light, and The Promise of Immortality: The true teaching of the Bible and Bhagavad Gita. In this recording, Swami Kriyananda speaks deeply about this very important subject.
